Shadowfin is an advanced autonomous underwater vehicle that can carry torpedoes like the MU90. It addresses the heightened maritime threat environment by serving as a flexible, cost-effective, and scalable platform for engaging hostile submarines and other targets such as underwater drones, infrastructure, and frigates. The target users are Ukraine, the Royal Danish Navy, and NATO allies, all of whom face challenges in protecting their maritime interests—especially from submarines. Shadowfin increases flexibility in anti-submarine warfare and reduces the need for expensive manned vessels. It offers rapid deployment and requires minimal maintenance, resulting in significant cost savings.
Shadowfin differentiates itself from existing solutions by being the only autonomous AUV in the world that is purpose-built to engage submarines by carrying and firing the torpedoes. This unique capability is combined with advanced communications technology typically found on surface vessels, ensuring continuous position updates even over long distances. With a low radar and sonar profile and a long range, it can "invisibly" approach hostile targets. It is more adaptable and cost-effective than manned alternatives.
